The world of blogging and influencing has become incredibly large and somewhat overcrowded. Nowadays it’s becoming increasingly difficult to make a dent in the industry or set yourself apart. This has, in the past, been the driving factor preventing me from even starting a blog to begin with. Fear of being the same, fear of not being good enough and fear that no one would like what I have to say. Luckily for me, the start up of my blog, ten kilometres, was thrust into its being by my University. An assignment for one of my University courses was exactly that, to start up a blog. Reluctantly, I started researching blogs and trying to find my niche. I still felt as if I wasn’t unique-enough or my lack of existing following would mean that it would be impossible to start a blog. However, as I researched I found a few blogs which resonated with me and inspired me to at least try and start my own blog, not only for the sake of the assignment (and hopefully a good grade) but also for myself, an avid writer who loves all things fashion, food, luxury and lifestyle. I have chosen to support three different blogs at three different levels of following to pay tribute to their role in inspiring me.
So, I present to you my top three blogs.
Coming in at number one, UK fashion guru Emma Hill and her blog: https://ejstyle.co.uk.
This blog is one of the more popular of my three blogs with almost 500,000 Instagram followers, but I couldn’t not share, Emma truly represents everything I want to be. She is sophisticated and down to earth with impeccable taste (her wardrobe is to die for). She markets herself as the life & style of a London girl and boy oh boy does she do it well. Emma Hill is 32 years old and lives in London with her husband (and employee of the month) Simon Creasey and her adorable Chihuahuas; Bean, Bella, Bumble, Bow & Boris (yes, she has five Chihuahuas). Before you ask, you can follow them too @the5ivebs. Emma has recently started a YouTube channel where you can see her designer shoe, bag and sunglass collections along with house tours, ootd’s (outfit of the days), vlogs and DIY’s. Be careful though, it’s a slippery slope watching her YouTube videos, after you’ve watched one, you may as well clear your schedule, you’ll find yourself under a compulsion to keep watching, and keep watching until you’ve seen all there is to see… don’t say I didn’t warn you! One of the things I like about Hill’s blog is that you can literally shop for her exact outfit or even her whole wardrobe if you desire. She has all the links for all of her items on her blog, sometimes she even provides alternate, cheaper options for some of her designer items which we all lust over but can’t necessarily afford. You’re welcome.
Second place is Kristen Byass and Melissa Zahorujko of The Adelaidian: http://theadelaidian.net. Now this blog was particularly inspiring because of the proximity and relatability of it. Kristen Byass is from Adelaide originally (Duh! Thus the blog name) but was actually also a few years above me at the same secondary school. Further to this the girls created this blog at the same University as a result of the exact same assignment. Look at them now, the blog is thriving. The two girls are now living in London. Every day they live out their passion for fashion, food, luxury and lifestyle, of course while staying true to their blog’s beginnings in the city of churches. They manage to follow the latest trends and gossip in little old Adelaide while residing over the other side of the world. The girls have been able to add a whole other dimension to the blog as they can now post about what they come across in their travels across the world or about their new overseas life. It’s really amazing to see how successful these girls have become and the opportunities that have come from being in my exact position now.
And finally, the humble, yet creative Bridget Stapleton and her up and coming blog: http://by-bridget.com. Last but definitely not least is Bridget’s blog which was probably the most inspiring for me, just because it was the most relatable and scalable to where I am now. Like me, Bridget is also a student, studying a communication degree. Bridget is of a similar age to me, is originally from Adelaide and also has very similar interests to me. Her blog is so aesthetically pleasing, a sea of pink hues shower her blog which predominantly focuses on beauty, skincare, fashion and lifestyle. Bridget’s writing is also fabulous, I find her articles addictive to read and it often thrusts me into gear and motivates me to write. I draw your attention to one of her recent posts ‘Why so many young Adelaidians feel compelled to cross the border’, if you’re between the ages of 18 and 24, and from Adelaide, I would highly recommend this read, it really resonated with me and it’s really well written, I’ve personally seen many a friends make to move to Melbourne for a flashier lifestyle. In saying this, pretty much all of her posts are well written – could not recommend this blogger enough.
